"I was a sheep in my nativity," Martin says. "My dad filmed every bit of it, including me being sick on the Virgin Mary."

This is not a story he's told a few hundred times, and while he sounds a bit rueful, he's not really all that embarrassed by it. As far as he's concerned, it's just a thing that happened when he was five.

"After that, I was always made to be a bush at the back of the stage."
